Scarification
Thatch is really nothing more than a loose layer of organic matter made up of dead grass, stems and roots that build up between the green growth and the soil. When the thatch becomes to thick it will start to suffocate the grass and even worse, it provides a welcoming environment for unwanted pests and diseases that can be deadly to your turf. Scarification is required and can be carried out in spring and in the autumn to remove thatch and moss.
Aeration
You already know your soil requires correct feed and hydration, but if the ground is too heavily compacted, grass and plant roots stay closer to the surface and become weakened. The best way to prevent weak root systems is to correctly aerate your lawn. Soil aeration is the practice of putting holes in the soil throughout the entire lawn, making it easier for water, nutrients, and air to penetrate grass roots so they’ll grow deep and strong.
Disease control
Most lawns will encounter diseases at some point in life as most are weather related and this we cannot change. Red Thread pictured left the most commonly known in domestic lawns is one of the easiest lawn diseases to spot because it sports a distinctive pinkish red coloration. Regular lawn treatments along with a fungicide application in spring and autumn are adequate in most situations for control.
